I AM STILL ALIVE

Since October 2023, Maisara Baroud has made it his mission to create at least one drawing every day. To give voice to his emotions and resist the erasure of Gaza, his project Still Alive in Gaza was first and foremost a way to answer the recurring question from all his friends: “Are you still alive?”

"As part of my testimony to the genocide I experienced in Gaza, I created a series of daily drawings titled “I am Still Alive.” I began this series in Gaza, and my move to France did not prevent me from continuing it and sharing the drawings on a daily basis. Over time, I developed some of the scenes to make them more intense, layered with symbolism and human experience, conveying pain, resilience, and hope simultaneously. The series embodies a deeply personal vision and serves as a visual testimony to the human capacity for resistance, endurance, and life despite loss and suffering, offering viewers a window into an individual experience that also bears witness to the collective memory of an entire people."
